EDITOR ’ S LETTER

Redefining Viewpoints

S chool is a perplexing paradox . While our teachers and materials intend for us to learn more about a variety of different topics to better our understanding of the world , we often find that the pure need to obtain particular grades or lay the track to our future far outweighs anything else , leading to a passive completion of homework , hasty preparation of tests , or potential misery after finding you never really learned anything during finals week . You could probably say that your innate passion for learning has been wringed out by the constant stress of school .

That ’ s the major reason why I started The Bell Nucleus this year , essentially to bring back that fervor to learn by taking major and complex issues in our scientific community and condense it into a digestible , entertaining , and visibly appealing publication . However , I do understand our Bellarmine community may be starkly split between STEM and the humanities / social studies groups . Though this journal is strictly devoted to science , research , medicine , and technology , you all may come to realize just how eminent a future of electric cars or space exploration really is and find that this journal could be an intriguing way of learning more about the scientific world while also enjoying the subtle art of writing an article .
To highlight this scientific unity between all humans , the BN Staff and I specifically chose to hone in on CRISPR , a revolutionary technology that probably will reshape all of your lives and future generations . Hopefully , you will also come to see The Bell Nucleus as a publication that similarly redefines the way you look at the world and stays as the centerpiece of Bellarmine to explore what the future has in store for the world , society , and you , in addition to reigniting your passion to learn . Enjoy the issue .
