The Scribes Corner
Meet Multi Talented Writer, Emem Esin
(This column appreciates the works and impact of Nigerian writers
as we believe they need more recognition than they currently get.
This is their little corner)
Emem Esin is an articulate English Language and Literature
teacher with the ability to effectively communicate with
students from diverse backgrounds or varying degrees of
learning abilities in a fun and energetic atmosphere. We were
drawn to her after reading her new book, ‘In Spite of Fear’.
As a highly skilled novelist, script writer and dramatist, Emem
tries to awaken the artistic skill and talent of every child by
equipping them with the knowledge required and getting
them involved in several activities.
The easy-going counsellor is also know for holding several
seminars with students on issues bordering around their
future goals, sexual harassment and self confidence.
The mother of two firmly believes that her greatest strengths
are her ability to understand and meet the needs of individual
children and families, thereby reaching out to them even
beyond their education and preparing them for the challenges
inside and outside the four walls of any institution.
Emem has written lots of short stories including, Misplaced
Priority, Ignorance, Phobia and Love Languages. She is also a
scriptwriter. Her latest book, ‘In Spite of Fear’ tells a gripping
story of child molestation and is targeted at young children in
primary and secondary schools.
