Th i ev es Do Not An sw er
By Suricke B.
One night, I awoke with a start,
For a noise was a-
falling in the kitchen.
Dressed in slippers
With my blanket at hand,
I crept into the hallway,
Wary and scared.
I squeaked out,
?Is anyone there??
Fully expecting no reply.
The sudden silence was scary,
And my heart almost jumped
Out of my chest.
But then I was answered:
Behind me it growled,
?It is also I.
Come help me steal the painting.?
A cackling
came from another side, saying:
?Bring me the key to open the silver?s
cupboard.?
I do not remember anything else,
But when I awoke the next morning,
I could not help but wonder:
Why would thieves,
Yes, any thief ever,
Dare risk his life
To answer little girls at night?
?It is I. Come help me lift the safe.?
A voice boomed through the quiet.
