Get Involved with Ocean Media Institute

OMI frequently hosts “Brews for the Blue,” events, which are free to the public and provide a forum for ocean

and beer lovers to enjoy award-winning documentaries

followed by conversation with marine scientists, filmmakers

and local organizations. Tune into their website for the next

event!

If you can’t join in a "Brews" event, no need to worry!

OMI has a number of different programs, including

online seminars:

OCEAN MEDIA IMMERSION:

Pairing emerging filmmakers, exhibit designers, artists,

and interactive developers with ocean scientists in the

field to produce strong, innovative visual narratives.

OCEAN MEDIA LABS:

Workshops that bring together scientists, politicians,

ocean advocates, and media-makers to work on targeted

transmedia campaigns that promote ocean health,

awareness, and policy.

SCIENCE-TO-STORY SEMINARS:

Sessions geared specifically to scientists and science

communicators in an effort to engage more effectively with

the public, gain trust, and whip the science into a good story.

OCEANS EVERYWHERE INITIATIVE:

Fostering ocean culture in inland communities via outreach at schools, museums, and community centers.

OUTREACH PARTNERS FOR SCIENTISTS:

Working with scientists at the grant application level, the OMI team helps to design, create, and distribute compelling and comprehensive outreach components and visual media that compliments the research. These may include beautifully produced short films, web-companions, animation and graphics, and interactive elements that visualize the science.
