Phil Imel

Phil Imel , former Dean of the W . Paul Cole , Jr ., School of Business , passed away in February at his home in Grundy , VA . He was 62 .
A native of Greenup , Kentucky , Phil earned degrees in Accounting , Chemistry and Agriculture .
As Dean , Phil oversaw improvements to curriculum and spearheaded business development collaboration . Before coming to Bluefield State , he taught business at Northern Virginia Community College .
In 2012 , Phil was named a Fulbright Scholar and taught at the Ural State University of Economics in Yekaterinburg , Russia .
His interest in international affairs extended to Africa where he contributed to the “ Water Wells for Africa Project ,” a 501c ( 3 ) organization whose mission is to provide sustainable water resources as a way to promote community development .
Phil is survived by his wife , Patricia . Also by his mother and four children .

Martha Ann Eborall

Professor Emeritus and former Dean of Arts and Science Martha Ann Eborall passed away November 30 . She was 65 . She taught biological science at Bluefield State retiring in 2018 .
Martha earned her B . S . and Ph . D . in Crop and Soil Science from Virginia Tech . Before coming to Bluefield State she taught at several high schools .
Her biological sciences courses at Bluefield State included General Biology , Botany , Ecology , Microbiology . She also taught a course on Cyberinfrastructure . She established and taught a study abroad course on the Ecology of Costa Rica .
Martha is survived by her husband David , son Jedidiah , son Bryan and wife Mandriell , and three grandchildren .
