Nonetheless , the Big Blue planned to redeem a home court loss to the Yellow Jackets a month earlier .
However , May 9 was not Big Blue ’ s day .
West Virginia State started fast , taking the doubles point , 2-0 .
Juliana Jimenez lost her number three singles match , 6-1 , 6-1 .
Then Paula Saez dropped her sixth singles , 6-2 , 6-2 .
Ghita Courdi fought hard at the number two singles , but fell short at 6-4 , 6-4 .
Shreya Chakrabarly at number one singles won her first set , 6-2 . She was behind 5-2 in the second set when the match was stopped with the Yellow Jackets having the four points they needed for the win .
Even though the Big Blue ’ s tournament ended early , they got a taste of playing at the next level . Another first for Bluefield State tennis despite a spring of unprecedented challenges .
Summing up the season , Athletics Director Derrick Price said , “ Sports is about growth . As a player and as a team . This year we saw a lot of both from the women ’ s tennis team . The Bluefield State community should be proud of what they accomplished .”
