The men were seeded second with a 9-6 record . Seven regular season matches had been cancelled because of COVID-related reasons .
They opened play Saturday , May 8 , against the University of Edinboro from Erie , PA . The third-ranked Fighting Scots came in champions of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference at 10-4 and ranked 46th nationally . The Big Blue were ranked outside the Top 50 .
Serving Up A Shutout .
The Big Blue showed no signs of rust , however , as they swept the Scots , 4-0 .
The doubles teams of Frederik Bau-Madsen / Mohamed Khalil and Tom Schmieta / Luke Busse got things started with quick one-set wins . Fabian Avail-Torres / Daniel Shasteen also played , but did not finish with the point guaranteed . That put the Big Blue up 1-0 going into the singles matches .
Then Avail-Torres , starting at number six singles , won his match easily at 6-1 , 6-2 .
Busse at number five singles followed and was nearly as convincing , dispatching his opponent 6-3 , 6-3 .
Number one singles Frederik Bau-Madsen completed the Big Blue shutout at 6-0 , 7-5 . Khalil , Schmieta and Razafindratsima did not finish with the match having been won .
