College Strengthens International Ties with Added MOUs
One of the hidden gems at Bluefield State is the set of relations the college has developed with partner institutions around the world . These relations are codified in Memoranda of Understanding ( MOUs ) that establish the grounds for exchanging students , faculty , and programs .
The result is that Bluefield State College , a relatively small college in rural West Virginia , has benefited from a constant flow of scholars and students who have enriched both the campus and community .
This decades-long effort has been spearheaded by Sudhakar “ Jammy ” Jamkhandi , Director of International Initiatives for the college . He is also a professor of English .
One of the first such experiences was in 1989 , when Jammy established working relationships with two universities in the People ’ s Republic of China .
The result is that Bluefield State College , a relatively small college in rural West Virginia , has benefited from a constant flow of scholars and students who have enriched both the campus and community .
In 1990 , a delegation that included college administrators , faculty and Bluefield ’ s then-mayor , the late Paul Cole ( for whom the business school is named ), visited those universities .
Subsequent MOUs were established with peer institutions around the world . The most recent include universities in El Salvador , Brazil , Algeria , Italy , Slovakia , Bulgaria , Turkey , Russia and the Republic of Georgia .
