Foothills Parkway:
All sections of the Foothills Parkway usually offer fantastic fall colors, Harrington said.
“ My favorite section is the section between US 321 and I-40. Some of those views will take one’ s breath, especially in October when the fall foliage is offering its best display,” he wrote.

Cosby to Mt. Cammerer:
Harrington said one of the best fall foliage strenuous hikes is from Cosby to Mt. Cammerer.
“ From the Cosby Campground, the Low Gap Trail is taken to Low Gap( 2.9 miles), turn left and follow the Appalachian Trail 2.1 miles to the Mt. Cammerer Trail, and then follow that trail. 06 miles to the outlook fire tower,” he said.
The round-trip mileage will be a little over eleven miles.
“ If one takes this hike when the fall foliage is at its peak display, they should be in for a real treat,” he said
Harrington explained that the trail hosts a fire outlook that was built in 1939. It is built of stone and two stories tall with an observation deck around it.
“ On a clear day, the view will take a person’ s breath, and it is possible to see I-40 down below shortly before it enters North Carolina,” he said.
