Block Home #3 Kopang (Pak Siah) | Page 11

Pak Siah’s Block Home was constructed in a total of 14 days by a local construction team. The first two days were spent demolishing the original damaged house, followed by two days of laying the foundations and preparing for the concrete floor to be poured. On the fifth day, the concrete floor was poured, and then two days were allowed for the concrete to set. Once the floors had set, two days were then spent installing the metal base for the first layer of blocks, constructing the walls, and preparing the metal frames for the roof structure.

Following the assembly of the block walls, the roof framing took one day, followed by a day of installing the galvanised metal roof sheets and preparing for the installation of the internal ceilings and electrical cabling. The family’s existing bathroom structure was retained and installed with a tiled shower space and toilet. Installation of the ceiling sheets and electrical cables was completed in a day, followed by another day of painting and resurfacing the concrete floors. The final three days saw the installation and painting of the wooden doors and windows completed. Pak Siah and his family, who had camped in a tent alongside the site during the build, moved into their new home as soon as the building was completed.
