Block Home #1 | Page 11

The house was constructed in nine days by a local construction team. The site where Agus had previously started to rebuild his home was chosen as the site for the Block Home, as the foundations had already been set. These foundations were retained and extended slightly, and concrete floors were laid to provide a smooth, level surface for the blocks to be laid on. Leveling the foundation took about a day to complete. It took the construction team one day of preparation to build the walls and roof, which involved laying out and cutting U-beams for the first layer of Blocks and assembling roof frames.

On the 22nd of October, the wall construction began and was completed, along with part of the roof structure. The following day the roof was completed, followed by two days spent installing the wooden doors and windows, installing ceilings, and polishing the interior concrete floors. The final three days were spent constructing the kitchen bench and installing electrical cabling and plumbing, including taps, kitchen sink, toilet, and showerhead. Some Blocks that had been damaged in transit were repaired using epoxy resin and wood shavings, and the roof was sealed with silicone in some places to ensure it was leakproof. The doors, handles, and locks were installed, and the home was then complete.
