YOUNG WOMEN ON THE MOVE DISEGO TSHIVHASE “POVERTY FOR THIS YOUNG LADY IS NOT A BARRIER “ Despite her impoverished and marginalized background, Disego did not let the sky be her limit. By Thendo Mphaphuli Her career in the entertainment industry has not been an easy one, especially coming from an impoverished and marginalized background, ranging from being raised by a single parent to lacking any financial means. Disego Tshivhase (22) had a humble beginning at Maname village in Nzhelele. Her career can be traced back to 2009 where she commenced modelling in Tshikuwi, therefore being crowned miss Love-Life Tshikuwi. Disego is a bold and determined woman, regardless of poverty and her gender, she did not let this be an excuse for laziness, she started an entertainment and marketing agency, which in 2014 hosted Miss Nzhelele. What motivated follow model as a career?She smiles my physical attributes were my biggest motivation, my height and my body are just built for modelling. What are the challenges you faced when starting with your model career? Financial difficulties was one of them , I had no money to further my career, this hindered my progress a lot. Coming from a disadvantage background/village you have achieved a lot of things tell us how you managed to get this far? Firstly Motivation, support and love from family especially my mother, she showed my support and love during my most difficult days. Secondly determination, commitment, humbleness and hard work were my pillars. Thirdly believing in God for a beautiful career helped me a lot. Who inspired you in your career? I gathered my inspiration from people like Alek Wek and Lupita Nyong'o, they are a true definition of African beauty. What have you achieved this far? I managed to achieve the following in my journey as a model: Crowned as Miss love life Tshikuwi 2010 -The face of African beauty competition -Miss Botlokwa 2013's top 10 -Miss Makhado 2014's top 10 -Hosted a successful Miss Nzhelele 2014 -A nominee in the South African awards for the upcoming model of the year 2015 -I casted Miss SA 2016, Mercedes Benz fashion week and RVK even if I didn't make it.
