DANCE VARSITY CREW
D
TOO
ance Varsity is a team
of 6 teenagers, selftrained and
professional male
dancers. They from Nelspruit,
Mpumalanga. They live and love
dance, hip hop to be more
precise. They started dancing
together as a crew in 2015,
February, individually they
started a long back, dating back
to at least 5 years, and 2011
end of primary school. Initially
they were all just friends, they
knew that they can dance but
never really danced together
until 2015. They decided one
day to form a dance crew.
The Dance varsity crew was
inspired by their older brothers
who were also part of a
Nelspruit Dance Crew, which
one of them now is their
couch. Being hip hop dancers
made them to grow more into
hip hop dance which is why
they are now hip hop based
crew. Dance varsity crew also
dance Kwaito apart from being
a hip hop based dance crew.
Obviously dancing is an art that
they enjoy and as Dance Varsity
they have went past the stage
of dancing being just a hobby
now. Dance to them is more
than just a hobby, it is a career.
By Barbara Mofokeng
In the next 5 years, the Dance Varsity see themselves on top
stages being atleast one of South African's top 5 dance crews,
as they have been in Johannesburg and have took part in the
biggest competitions in South Africa. So they know how
Dance
much work has toDance

To
them dancing creates an art, it is the number one way of
reacting to good music, it is a way of expressing emotions. It
is very hard to dance and not enjoy yourself, so it also brings
joy and happiness. It is a lot of hard work when it comes to
dancing as a crew as well, but it just creates an art that any
other type of art doesn't create.
