Interview with
MAKHUMBILA ATTORNEYS FOUNDER Tinyiko
Makhumbila
e holds an LLB degree from the HUniversity of Limpopo 2009-2012 . He served his articles of clerkship with Mateta Attorneys and he was admitted as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa in 2016 .
Q : What challenges are you facing in this line of work ?
A : So far I haven ' t faced any challenge that discouraged me to continue with what I ' m doing . If there is something that I do not understand I also approach senior colleagues who have experience or seek more clarity by going through decided cases on similar facts or visit the rules of the law society for guidance .
Q : Why are you a Lawyer / attorney or what influenced your choice , if it was a choice ?
A : When I was still a little boy , I always thought that one day I will be an Engineer , but growing up I developed an interest in law and politics . I have an uncle who is an attorney so growing up around him made me more and more interested in law than engineering so I ended up following the legal path . He would go around with me to various gatherings and conferences of the law society . When he was elected as the president of the law society of the Northern province ( Limpopo ) and co-chairperson of the law society , I was inspired and wanted to be like him one day . The reason why I love law is not mainly about making money but rather to help people who seek legal advices and who need to have their problems solved and also to make sure that the community we live in is safe and protected by the law .
Q : Are you satisfied where you are in life ?
A : Well I might not be where I want to be today but I thank God that I ' m not where I use to be . One step at a time and I ' ll eventually get there , there ' s still more I need to achieve in life .
Q : For how long have you been working as a Lawyer and do you plan to further your studies ?
A : I have been in practice for 3 years now . And yes I ' m still going to study further . " Anyone who stops learning is old , whether at twenty or eighty . Anyone who keeps learning stays young . The greatest thing in life is to keep your mind young ." Henry Ford , this quote keeps me going .
Q : How do you deal with people who need your advice but want to give you advice instead ?
A : Well as a person you don ’ t know everything and the mistake we always make is that we undermine others , everyday we learn different things so if there ' s someone who tries to advice you I believe one should give that person a chance to express his

views or opinion . So I do give people a chance .
Q : What advice can you give to students who want to pursue a career in law ?
A : Law is a good career , it helps to shape our communities . I think we still need more lawyers in our communities to help build a nation that is law abiding . Fresh mind is always needed . So there ' s still more room for lawyers and when you enroll for a law degree you have to focus and study hard and most importantly you must stay out of trouble .
Q : Any weaknesses shouldn ' t one have if they want to pursue a career I n Law ?
A : As a law student or an aspirant lawyer you must be a hardworking person who is not lazy to read , do research and keep up with current affairs .
