U L E
FOR GOD
Dr. I. Alfred Ebenezer, Coonoor, Tamil Nadu
‘Majority wins', 'We go by majority', are
oft quoted statements that have become a
part of our life. Not only politicians and
secular leaders try to lure people to their
cause, Christendom too is infiltrated with
such ideologies. But what does the Scripture
say? What does the Lord say? Do you know
that He is in search of a man to establish His
cause? Do you know that just a handful of
people are enough for Him to bring in the
kingdom of God? The Bible is replete with
such incidents. God is in search of a man like
Abraham, unstained by the patterns of this
world, so that in him all the nations will be
blessed (Gen 12: 1-3). He wants men to stand
in the gap and intercede so that He will not
pour out His wrath on the people (Eze 22:30).
Many a time, God is grieved because He is
unable to find such a person. Let us meditate
on this in the light of the Holy Scripture.
1. People Who Are Intimate With God
God is in search of men who are close to
Him. People so close that He doesn't do
anything without telling them. Abraham was
one such man (Gen 18:17,18). God confided
about His plan to destroy Sodom and
Gomorrah to him. The earnest prayer of
Abraham protected Lot's family from being
swept away by God's wrath. If Abraham had
not known about God's plan, he could not
have pleaded for his nephew. God was faithful
in answering the prayer of a man who was
close to Him. He even called Abraham as His
friend (Js 2:23).
Sin is rampant in this world. Scores and
scores of people are perishing. If we are close
to God, won't He reveal what is in His heart so
that we can intercede for such people? How is
our prayer life? How much time do we spend
with Him? Did this lockdown time bring us
closer to Him? Shall we decide to spend more
time at His feet so that He might reveal His
heart's burden to us?
2. People Filled With Compassion
On the way to Canaan from Egypt, in the
wilderness, the people of Israel sinned against
the Lord by making a golden calf and
worshipping it (Ex 32: 1-6). They provoked
God to anger. God told Moses that He will
annihilate them and will make him a great
nation in their stead. What a wonderful
opportunity for Moses! He could have got rid
of them easily. They were constantly hurling
insults at him and quarrelling with him
throughout the journey. He could then
become a prominent nation. It was a nice
proposal from the Lord Himself. But did
Moses agree to it? See how he implores the
Lord to spare them: “O Lord, why does your
wrath burn hot against your people, whom you
have brought out of the land of Egypt with
great power and with a mighty hand? Why
should the Egyptians say, 'With evil intent did
he bring them out, to kill them in the mountains
and to consume them from the face of the
