OWU...Making A Difference

s a wife and working mother of
five children, ages 9 to 20, the
time I can dedicate to outdoor
sports is limited, even though
my husband, Allan, and our children,
love sharing outdoor adventures as a
family.
A few years ago, I met Rebecca Wood,
Founder of Outdoor Women Unlimited
(OWU), and she encouraged me to
attend some of the OWU’s outdoor educational events. OWU was offering a
variety of classes, including shotgun,
pistol, rifle, and archery. I was excited to
sign up for these classes, along with my
three daughters, so the four of us could
become more knowledgeable about
firearm safety and use. Some of my husband’s rifles I had shot in the past were
a bit intimidating and felt too powerful
for me. I wanted to find a firearm that
suited me.
After attending the Outdoor Women
Unlimited Southern Classic, I was introduced to the OWU and SAT-C FIREARM
TRAINING CLINICS. With additional professional training, including classroom
and range, became more confident in
my hunting skills.
In late spring of 2013, I was invited
to a wild hog hunt. I could not pass
up this new adventure. Rebecca Wood,
her daughter and President of OWU,
Whitney, our guide and myself were
excited to venture after these large creatures of the swamp. Needless to say,
I was a little nervous, but I saw my
