How important is it for women to empower each other? VERY! It’ s imperative for us to thrive. People should empower people period. It takes nothing away from one person to empower another. To the contrary, it helps fortify each other and build each other up to be able to connect better and relate. There’ s a perception that the coloured girl’ s voice is subdueddo you agree with this line of thought? Not so much subdued, as it has been typically marginalized, or relegated to the side line, and has not be a part of the focal point of most mainstream cultural, political and social conversation. Which is quite ironic when we are the backbone of most modern western culture. For example, just look at the new Vogue cover. That’ s supposed to be“ the beauty revolution”?! Most black women we know did not feel represented in that depiction at all and felt that was mislabelled... and we agree! Even as far as fashion goes, most of the ideas that are now seen as hot by people came from young black women, just being creative with what they could afford. But somehow now that the Kylies and those girls have gotten hold of it, it’ s suddenly“ cool”?! So yeah, our voice is not heard as loudly, or as deeply, or weighed as heavily, until someone wants something from us, when in fact we are quite impactful. The Coloured Girl is aiming to change that!
If you could turn back the hands of time, what message will you pass to your younger self? Victory: LOVE YOURSELF … believe in yourself. LISTEN TO YOURSELF. Anything is possible and the law of attraction is real! Tori: Stand up for what you believe in and face your fears!
Finally, what would you like‘ the coloured girl’ to know about herself? That she is worthy, important and powerful and deserves to be loved and also give love, infinitely! That she is amazing beyond measure and to not let anyone tell her otherwise!
