Blacktown Welcomes a new era of cinema with IMAX and ScreenX opening at Westpoint

by Julie Ryan
Movie lovers across Western Sydney are set to experience cinema like never before, with the official opening of the new IMAX and ScreenX theatres at HOYTS Blacktown, located inside the bustling Westpoint Shopping Centre.
The landmark opening ceremony was hosted by entertainment reporter Richard Wilkins, who led the official ribbon cutting before guests were treated to a special screening showcasing the cutting-edge technology and immersive features now available to local audiences. Light refreshments followed, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter for cinema in Blacktown.
The new additions form part of a remarkable 10-theatre complex that
delivers four unique cinema experiences, each designed to take moviegoing to the next level.
Leading the charge is the spectacular IMAX theatre, renowned worldwide for its massive screens, crystal-clear images and powerful sound. Designed to fully immerse viewers, IMAX brings films to life with breathtaking scale and clarity, placing audiences right in the heart of the action. Equally impressive is ScreenX, an innovative multi-projection system that expands the film beyond the traditional screen and onto the side walls, creating a stunning 270-degree panoramic experience. This wraps viewers in the story, making them feel like part of the scene rather than simply watching it.
The complex also features
Xtremescreen, boasting a giant 28-metrewide screen – more than twice the size of a standard cinema – combined with Dolby Atmos surround sound for an incredibly powerful and dynamic viewing experience.
For those seeking something different, D-BOX cinemas offer motion-activated seats that move in sync with the on-screen action, allowing audiences to physically feel every twist, turn and explosion.

Comfort is also a priority throughout the complex, with powered recliners in every auditorium and unique daybed seating options designed for couples, families or friends wanting a relaxed, shared viewing experience.
The opening of IMAX and ScreenX in Blacktown is more than just a cinema upgrade – it’ s a major entertainment milestone for Western Sydney. Residents no longer need to travel into the city to experience world-class cinema technology, with everything now available right in the heart of their local community.
With blockbuster releases, family favourites and cinematic spectacles all set to shine on these state-of-the-art screens, Blacktown’ s newest cinemas promise unforgettable movie moments for years to come.
