July is a great month to get wrapped up warm and toasty and enjoy the outdoors; there is no shortage of local events. NAIDOC Week, All Holden Day, the Mineral & Gem Show are all happening.
This year’ s theme for NAIDOC, The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy, celebrates the achievements of the past and the brightness of the future. A highlight of this 50 year legacy celebration will be marked by council’ s Warami Mittigar Concert on Saturday 13 July at Francis Green, Blacktown Showground. Enjoy this vibrant community event celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander heritage and culture, p5.
The annual State Gem & Mineral Show, Saturday 13 September 9am-5pm and Sunday 29th September 9am-4pm returns to the Hawkesbury Showground. This amazing display of items attracts traders from across the country, let your eyes feast on the tables full of gemstones, jewelry, opals, crystals( to name a few), learn something new and pick up a gift for yourself or a friend, p13.
The much-loved NSW All Holden Day is back Sunday 3 August. This 37th annual event, which hosts the largest collection of Holdens on display anywhere in the world is sure to go off with a boom, p12.
Great news in the education field is the opening of Macquarie Community College’ s newest campus in Mount Druitt. The college is 75 years old and started as Macquarie Evening College in Eastwood, p17.
Regarding your food and waste, some of you may have received a couple of different bins from council, who are rolling out waste service reform – the most notable in 30 years, p4.
For the lunar lovers amongst you, the full moon is on 11 July and the new moon on 25, so keep your celestial eyes peeled! Until next month, from the team …
