Rosemary Phillis

produced a number of outstanding publications including a history of the Riverstone Meat Works , a pictorial History of Riverstone and aided and abetted by Shirley Seale and Ron Mason , Riverstone and the First World War .
And down the years she has also written , collated and edited the annual Riverstone and District Historical Society Journal – always a good read !
“ History has always been my passion , as has this community , so I have never found the work I do a burden ,” Rosemary said .
“ If you enjoy doing what you are doing , it is never a chore !”
Rosemary said Riverstone is a fantastic place and she has found it to be a community of inspirational role models .
“ People such as my grandmother , Ida Voysey and my great aunt Dorothy Vaughan instilled in me a love for our town and a passion for our history ,” Rosemary said .
“ And down the years since , the likes of Judith Lewis and my society colleagues and historians such as Michelle Nichols and Jonathan Auld of the Hawkesbury Historical Society and Blacktown Historical Society ’ s Sharyn Wicks have continued to inspire me .”
This wonderful woman has always played a positive role in bringing people together in Riverstone .
She did that when the first wave of immigrants – many of them out of the old migrant camp at Scheyville - relocated to Riverstone and surrounds .
And it is something she continues to
do as another wave of New Australians move into the district .
“ It is a role we all have to play in welcoming newcomers to our country ,” Rosemary said .
“ We must let them know we are here to help them and that will go a very , very long way to aiding them into becoming , as did their predecessors , proud Australians .”
Rosemary has lived all her life in “ Vaucluse by the Creek ”.
This inspirational woman attended Riverstone primary and high schools from where she graduated with her HSC before commencing an Applied Science degree at the NSW Institute of Technology .
“ After graduation there was no work available in that area , so I sat for the Public Service Exam , passed and entered into the public service where I have been employed ever since ,” Rosemary explained .
A keen golfer as a schoolgirl and into her late teens , she gave the game away to concentrate on her career but in 2015 she managed to find time in her busy lifestyle to get the old clubs out of moth balls . “ I have had lessons with Geoff Mansfield at Llandilo Driving Range and with the delightful professional at Rum Corps Golf Club , Adam Kelleher ,” Rosemary said .
“ My game is improving . I can certainly whack a ball but there ’ s still a lot of work to do on all other aspects of the game !” But if golf was a commitment to community , Rosemary Phillis would be hitting holes-in-one on every hole !
