After pouring lots of energy into Christmas what are you going to do now it ’ s over ? Don ’ t worry , this issue is packed with ideas for the rest of a warm and relaxing summer !
Australia Day celebrations adorn these pages starting with our cover . The Australia Day concert and fireworks are on Sunday 26 at The Rooty Hill . This is a must for all the family with a crammed line up of live performances , amusement rides , food stalls and the finale firework display lighting up the night sky .
There is also a comprehensive list of activities in our Local Life feature , p8 . Ideas range from keeping cool in our pools , picnicking in shady green spaces and enjoying our libraries with summer reading and craft days .
For the more vulnerable in the community who just want to keep cool , council is working with various organisations to provide Cool Centres from now through to the end of March , where people can find relief as the temperature soars , p18 .
Scattered through this issue are new year well wishes from our Mayor and MPs , who are committed to their various projects for 2025 and beyond , each one of them improving our city .
New year , new challenges ? In our Power of column on page 14 , Lorna discusses setting personal goals that are achievable and realistic . There are also some simple but terrific tips on preparing your child for kindy to smooth their transition into this new world .
Santa and reindeer hats off to Peter and Lauraine Overton from Quakers Hill who have delighted locals with their amazing Christmas light displays for 30 years . They have raised $ 80,000 for Lights for Kids initiative - what an astounding achievement .
