MAKE A DIFFERENCE : Quakers Hill Junior Soccer Club

by Lorna Gordon
Before I get some of you offside by writing about a club that you don ’ t support , this article is not about points on a league table , but about the history and members of the club itself . Now we have that settled and you aren ’ t going to give me a red card , let ’ s look at why Quakers Hill Junior Soccer Club make a difference .
Quakers Hills Junior Soccer Club was established in 1968 by Wilf Macbeth , along with other founding members Merv Barnard and Ann Graham .
Wilf saw the need for a community activity outside of school and work and thought football was a perfect choice , with Merv and Ann on board they joined the Nepean District Competition until Blacktown District Soccer Association was formed in 1979 , when the team moved to play in its local association .
Knowing the club would need money to run , Wilf ’ s family donated a cow to the team , the milk was sold , as were the calves which the cow gave birth to , and the profits were used to pay for equipment and fees .
This hardworking mascot has been remembered to this day , with longhorns still being a focal point of the club ’ s emblem .
The team has always trained and played at its current home ground at Quakers Hills Park on the corner of Hambledon Road and Quakers Hills Parkway , but the facilities have changed over the years to include amenities , a canteen for the essential post-game sausage sizzle , and the club house , which displays all the trophies the club has won over the years . None of this would have been possible without the hard work and dedication of the committee , and as every sports team knows , they are a dedicated group of individuals working tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure everything runs smoothly .
From organising matches to securing
sponsorships and everything in between , these unsung heroes play a pivotal role in shaping the team ’ s journey to greatness .
The club celebrated its 40th season in 2007 and marked the occasion with a ‘ Path of History ’ at the club with stone pavers being engraved with club members and made into a pathway from the clubhouse to the canteen .
To commemorate their 50th season in 2017 , and as recognition to everyone who had played an important part of the team decorative bollards were installed at the entry to the playing fields detailing

More than ‘ just ’ a football team , Quakers Hill Junior Soccer brings families together at games and training sessions . The committee , coaches and mentors make sure that young players are instilled with important life lessons both on and off the field , from learning the importance of teamwork to and resilience .
You can watch the games every weekend during the football season at Quakers Hills Park on the corner of Hambledon Road and Quakers Hills Parkway .
