$ 35 million park upgrades opened

Traditional ‘ Welcome to Country ’ and ‘ Smoking ’ ceremonies , along with food stalls , music and a carnival atmosphere have marked the official opening of two multi-million-dollar park upgrades in northwest Sydney .
Blacktown City Mayor Tony Bleasdale OAM joined NSW Minister for Local Government Hon . Ron Hoenig MP and the Member for Riverstone Warren Kirby MP , as well as local residents on Tuesday , 16 April for the official openings of the parks in Schofields and Grantham Farm .
Over $ 26 million has been invested in the construction of water retention basins , cycleways , playgrounds and landscaping in two reserves that make up the Edmund Street Basin Precinct in the new suburb of Grantham Farm .
Meanwhile , nearly $ 10 million has been invested in the construction of a new amenities building , a playground and landscaping in Galungara Park in Schofields .

funding from the NSW Government ’ s Accelerated Infrastructure Fund and from developer contributions administered by Blacktown City
Council .
Mayor Bleasdale said , “ Blacktown City Council , along with the Minns Labor Government , is determined to provide the very best infrastructure to serve the needs of our residents in the rapidly developing suburbs such as Grantham Farm , Riverstone and Marsden Park .”
“ The Edmund Street Basin Precinct provides environmental stormwater management and flood protection as well as landscaped open space , a playground , pathways and habitat for local wildlife ,” Mayor Bleasdale said .
Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Paul Scully said the NSW Government has committed over $ 18 million for the two projects .
“ These excellent projects are key examples of delivering critical infrastructure to the North-West Growth Area ,” Mr Scully said .
“ Galungara Park upgrade will provide much-needed amenities for local school children and sporting groups to enjoy .
