EDUCATE ME
As NAPLAN returns , consider the after rather than the before
NAPLAN is back , taking place on Wednesday 13 March to Monday 25 March 2024 . It ’ s a great way to help schools identify how the student ’ s performance is tracking year on year , as well as allowing students to see their progress throughout different stages of their schooling .
Mrs Rontania Jensen , Director of Teaching and Learning at Mountain View Adventist College , is in the middle of NAPLAN preparation with her students .
“ We focus on helping students familiarise themselves with the structure of the test itself , this assists in obtaining the most accurate picture of the student ’ s current level at that point in time whilst minimising the stress for the student in trying to understand the online assessment structure .”
“ Most importantly , though , we don ’ t put any pressure on the students . There is no pass or fail , and we really stress that to both our students and their families .”
Whilst it ’ s important for students to do the best they can during the test , Mrs Jensen stresses the importance of reviewing your child ’ s results once they are received . “ You want a true representation of how your child is performing . It ’ s great to practice beforehand and do the best you can , but my top recommendation is to contact your child ’ s teacher to discuss the results .”
At Mountain View Adventist College , NAPLAN results are used to determine how to best cater for student needs . By using your child ’ s results to determine if a child needs to be extended in their learning or if there are any pain points that need to be addressed .
