Welcome to 2024 which will no doubt bring you new challenges and experiences . We will continue to bring you relevant and interesting news about Blacktown City and hope that you are better informed after perusing our pages .
I wondered what may be in store for us this year so typed ‘ interesting facts for 2024 ’ * in my browser . Up popped lots of interesting things , some you may be familiar with , such as the meteoric rise in Artificial Intelligence ( AI ), the continued advancements in renewable energy or the mass planting of trees in the African deserts .
What I wasn ’ t ready for was flying cars or lunar holidays …
Well , back to Blacktown and we don ’ t have to go to the moon to have fun this summer ! Mayor Tony Bleasdale OAM lists a huge list of activities happening over the school holidays , p8 . These range from library events and workshops , water fun at the local leisure centres or just packing your picnic stuff and heading to a local
BCI shady park .
A highlight for the month is council ’ s Australia Day Concert on 26 th Jan 4pm – 9.30pm . Music icons , circus workshops and free rides should keep the kids happy .
Kids from Year 5 at Metella Road Public School in Toongabbie really deserve their summer break ! They recently won $ 20,000 worth of classroom stationery in a national school comp , Sticking Together , p18 .
In the health space , planning has begun on the Mount Druitt Hospital upgrade which will deliver an additional 30 hospital beds for local residents and Prospect is one of several electorates that will benefit from a share in $ 500,000 through a program that installs life-saving defibrillators at sports facilities , p5 and 8 .
