THE POWER OF ... SERIES
The power of being organised
by Lorna Gordon
If you want to start the new year in the best way possible , being organised is a great thing to embrace , and it ’ s actually good for you !
If you are organised you tend to know where things are in your home , are on track with work or study , can get your bills paid on time and know when you have appointments lined up .
This helps with reducing stress as you know what you are doing each day and don ’ t feel like you are falling behind in work or looking after yourself and your home .
Being organised also boosts your self esteem as you feel like you have your life together . It can help you be more productive as you aren ’ t running about at the last minute trying to find things you have misplaced or turning work late .
It can help to save you money because you don ’ t have to go and buy a duplicate of something you can ’ t find or pay a late fee on a bill you forgot about .
If that ’ s not enough for you to get your act together then it also frees up time you would spend rushing about to let you put your feet up , relax and hang out with family and friends or doing an activity you enjoy .
Many people struggle with being organised ( I know I do , sorry boss !) so here are a few things you can do to help yourself .
Technology can be your best friend , put your appointments , deadlines and important dates into your device and set it up to give you reminders .
Write a ‘ to do ’ list for work projects and plan how to break them down . Declutter your home so you have less stuff to worry about finding a home for , you could even sell things you no longer use !
Put things away straight away so you don ’ t forget where it is or give yourself a 10 minute tidy time to clear up at the end of the day .
If you are really struggling with any of these , don ’ t beat yourself up , ask a trusted friend or work mate to give you some help or advice and figure out what systems will work for you .
