COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT

Whalan Community and Activities Group

Ed Husic with Dr Yang Wang at the Rooty Hill Medicare Urgent Care Clinic .
Rooty Hill is now home to one of the nation ’ s 60 Medicare Urgent Care Clinics . Making sure our community gets access to affordable health care is a big priority to me as your Federal MP .
These clinics are designed to help people with semi and non-urgent conditions . Instead of visiting Blacktown or Mount Druitt Hospitals ’ Emergency Departments for help , you can visit the Rooty Hill Urgent Care Clinic .
The Clinic is staffed by doctors and nurses and is open seven days a week 8am to 8pm . Walk in , no is appointment needed , just bring your Medicare card .
This Federal Government investment helps improve our access to vital bulk billing Medicare services on top of the cuts to the cost of medicines we made this year .
The clinic is located at the Rooty Hill Medical and Dental Centre , 31 Rooty Hill Rd North .
Ed Husic with Whalan Community and Activities Group members Robyn Reeves , Diane Fisher and Lorraine Denne .
Congratulations to the Whalan Community and Activities Group who were one of the 12 recipients of Round 8 of the Chifley Stronger Communities Programme .
The group has been around for 25 years and is run by volunteers who organise bus trips , craft , woodworking activities and exercise programs for seniors . They meet weekly at the old Whalan High School site .
This year , the team received backing for the installation of a new air conditioner , providing comfort for members during hot summers .
It ’ s great to support local community groups in this way and I look forward to following the amazing work these organisations continue to do within our area .
