Despite the 150 per cent increase in paper stock costs , struggling through lockdowns and the concerted effort of media publishing giants to push all content to a paid , digital platform , the Independent will continue to bring you local news and interesting stories about your district and your people .
We wholeheartedly believe in free local news , reported by local journalists , supporting the local business community . As Minister for Communications Michelle Rowland said on P5 local papers are the “ lifeblood of the community .”
This month we hear about Bill McNamara ’ s extraordinary life .
Head of the McNamara Group , you have more than likely been in , or seen , one of the many landmark buildings he ’ s constructed throughout western Sydney , in particularly Blacktown City .
Bill was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in 1984 , he has been the 2017 Blacktown City Council Corporate

Citizen of the Year , was just granted the Key to Blacktown City by Mayor Tony Bleasdale .
Learn more about the McNamara family in Greg Martin ’ s story on P6-7 .
Since opening in 2015 , The Hive , a community-based charity working in our district , continues to help children within the 2770 postcode start school in the best way possible .
Read about what this fantastic organisation does to listen to its community , support them and make the area thrive on P11 .
Congratulations of course go to the group of outstanding citizens who received AM or OAMs in the Queen ’ s Birthday honours . Your dedication to our community and bettering the life of others is exemplary . We have their story on P8 .
