Our finest this month , Emma Hoskins , p8-9 , is a remarkable and impressive 13-year-old . Emma was named Blacktown City Young Citizen of the Year at the 2023 Australia Day awards . This talented teen wears multiple hats : national sport competitor , dance teacher , cultural ambassador and community representative to name a few .
Our beloved Hawkesbury Show is back on April 28,29,30 . This well-loved family event is in its 136th year , and its popularity continues to soar . Music ,
BCI food , shows and competitions will be there for the taking . Details on p14 .
Another test of time is Westpoint at Blacktown which is celebrating its 50th birthday .
Throughout the month there will be a fascinating historical display and a host of activities spread across all four floors ; the theme is going back in time to the 70s , see how the kids handle old school arcade games ! See p10-11 .
And save the best ‘ til last . Our city is fired up to boom ! Council have signed a multi-billion-dollar agreement with Walker Corporation . This is to revitalise Blacktown , the largest and fastest growing city in NSW . The master plan will see bigger public spaces , improve access and create 4,500 local jobs . See the mayor ’ s message on p22 .
