Women in the media
Do women in the media show real beauty?
Why should there be topless women in the papers but not men?
Should women starve themselves just to be what the media wants?
Studies suggest the 60 % of women try to look like the “ideal” magazine
model. 91% of all women in the UK want to change at least one aspect of
their physical appearance. 75% of which are unhappy with their figure or
weight and only 2% of women believe they are beautiful.
This suggests that women are influenced by the media a lot and that they
want to look like the “ideal” women.
Most of the time, newspapers don’t show real beauty anyway, as half of the
photos used are digitally altered in some way and they aren’t natural.
In Ireland, woman companied against Page three, in the sun newspaper as
they are objectifying women. This was successful in Ireland so why don’t we
do the same.
