I am both excited and grateful to
introduce you to this new digital
magazine, Black By Degrees. Excited
because this new venture mirrors one
of my passions; helping our kids
succeed. Grateful because I get to meet
and interact with people who share my
passion for uplifting our children.
Also, I'm thankful that the
legendary Melba Moore graciously agreed to appear in this
inaugural issue. I had the priviledge of speaking with her
about a variety of subjects including her Melba and Friends
project. I found her to be quite engaging and easy to talk to. It
didn't hurt that she spent part of her childhood in New Jersey,
the state where I spent most of my precollege years.
Thanks also to talented author, Omar Tyree who agreed to
submit an essay about the iconic song, Lift Every Voice and
Sing.
To the people I reached out to who agreed to answer a
questionnaire or submit a brief essay for what was at that time
just a gleam in my publishing eye, thanks for the leap of faith.
Lastly, my heartful thanks to you for taking the time to see
for yourself what this magazine is about. You've gotten this far
in this issue, you might as well read the rest of it. When you're
done, tell me what you think. [email protected]
