Africa and America

Love Abroad

How did you meet?

We were introduced by mutual friends who were dating at the time.

Where is your wife from?

My wife is from Ethiopia. My perceptions of Africa have always been positive and have remained so throughout our 3 plus years of marriage. I've learned a lot about their culture and how the family unit really works for the good of the family.

Do you have children?

We have 2 children. Our daughter is 2 and our son is 7 months old. We have visited her country but not the USA. We traveled for the first time to American in 2018 as a family.

How does her family feel about you?

Her family seems to appreciate me. My mother has met her family. Elizabath will meet my entire family next week for the first time.

What is your advice to those interested in intercultural marriages?

Before getting married, take a look at the 2 cultures and make sure you are flexible enough to meet the other person half way. Look at what it takes to get the person in the USA. Explore those options and be prepared to go through all the hoops. It took 3 years for my wife to get a visa/green card to the USA.
