#WeGlobal
African Americans Living Abroad
Research & Education Program
Update — Spring 2019
#WeGlobal is LIVE!!!
African Americans
currently
living
abroad can now
access the survey
by clicking on the
“Participate
in
Online Study” button on the homepage at https://
www.aalivingabroad.org/. But #WeGlobal is
NOT JUST a survey. It is a comprehensive
program of interrelated initiatives that we believe
will benefit current and future generations of Afri-
can Americans. We imagine interactive exhibits
at museums, study abroad programs, and a se-
ries of regional conferences leading to a global
gathering of African Americans living abroad.
We believe African Americans living in the Unit-
ed States would also be interested in attending
such a global gathering. This online study pro-
vides the foundation to create these programs.
Tell a Relative/Friend
For all the reasons above and
more, we need as many African
Americans as possible living
abroad – all around the world –
to participate in this global effort.
That’s where your part comes in!!
We need your help in finding Afri-
can Americans currently living abroad. Please
send a short message to friends and relatives
and encourage them to participate.
Please also post infor-
mation about the project on
ALL of your social media
platforms. Activating your
networks will surely spread
this initiative around the
world faster. We’re using hashtags #weglobal,
#aalivingabroad, and #letsmakehistorytogether.
Brothas & Sistas of Kuwait
Omar Louis is the #WeGlobal Ambassador for Kuwait. He has lived
in Kuwait for 17 years and is currently teaching at the Kuwait Bilin-
gual School (KBS). In addition, he serves as one of the administra-
tors for the Facebook group, Brothas and Sistas of Kuwait.
BASOK, as it’s called, has garnered over 1,000 members in a little
over two years of its existence. BASOK’s objective is to establish a
community in Kuwait of “Brothas and Sistas,” who come together
for fellowship, partake in social activities, and engage in networking
both within Kuwait and abroad. The photo above is from a BASOK
bowling night. Omar is in front, kneeling, with the white sweatshirt.
Support Us
Although the study has launched, now the REAL work begins!
From May until September of this year, we will be doing extensive
outreach, networking, and organizing to spread the word about the
online survey and the broader #WeGlobal initiatives. There will be
programs at libraries and museums, outreach to HBCUs, alumni
associations, fraternities and sororities, and other efforts. All of
this takes time and resources. We could use your support!
#WeGlobal: African Americans Living Abroad Research and Edu-
cation Program is a sponsored project of Fractured Atlas, a non-
profit arts service organization. Contributions for the charitable pur-
poses of #WeGlobal must be made payable to “Fractured Atlas”
and are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law. You can
