MAY Open House
By: Jonah Schoenfeld-10th Grade
On
Sunday,
November
9th,
Mesivta Ateres Yaakov hosted an
Open
House
for
potential
incoming ninth
graders
and
their parents. Over 100 8th graders
attended the Open House with
their
parents, resulting in a
packed crowd at each event.
The program started with a Student
Fair in which parents and students
had the opportunity to circulate
among different tables and see the
various educational and extracurricular opportunities the school
offers its talmidim. Stands included
a presentation of the various sports
leagues that the yeshiva participates in as well as a stand featuring
the myriad student publications the
students at MAY produce
each year.
The event then continued with a
video presentation outlining all that
the school has to offer. Before the
video, Rabbi Mordechai Yaffe, the
Menahel, stressed that, “Our contribution to the talmidim of our yeshiva isn’t just for the four years that
they are here. Each year, we send
our Rabbeim to Eretz Yisrael to
check up on our talmidim and each
year it culminates in a beautiful
Shabbaton.”
Afterwards, the 8th graders and
their parents split up. The students
partook in several exciting activities
including a basketball shooting
competition for prizes and a fascinating science experiment demonstrated by Mr. Malizia, the school’s
popular science teacher.
Meanwhile, the parents were able
to attend panel presentations by
the General Studies Department,
alumni, parents, and Rabbeim, and
then a tour of the yeshiva. One of
the parents proclaimed that," The
Open House is really nice. It's very
clear that MAY is a warm and
friendly environment and the
students and rabbeim are great
role models."
