Bekiyus with a Purpose
The 9th Grade Bekiyus Gemaras
have a little more meaning this year than in prior
years. Mr. and Mrs. Dovi
Faivish, the parents of
freshman
Avi
Faivish,
generously donated all of
the 9th grade gemaras in
memory of the three precious boys who died Al
Kiddush Hashem this past
summer: Naftali Frankel,
Gilad Shaar, and Eyal
Yifrach.
This week, the Yeshiva
also sent a heartfelt letter
accompanied by pictures
of the bekiyus class to
each of the families explaining
that
the
9th graders were learning
in memory of the 3 boys.
These boys left a lasting
impression on Klal Yisrael,
and the Faivish’s wanted
to do something tangible
in their memory. Mr.
Faivish explained that,
“As Jews, and especially as parents, our hearts went out to the 3
families during every step of the
story. We felt that it was imperative
upon us do something in memory

of the boys that also enabled our
boys to have an opportunity to
participate
and
to
bring
an aliyah to
the neshamos of
Naftali, Gilad, and Ayal”.
Now, each day’s learning is done
In their memory and the freshman
have a constant reminder of what they are
learning for each time
they open their gemaras and see the inside
cover.
One freshman student
said, “I heard about the
terrible news from this
summer but I didn’t
think there was anything
I could do about it.
Then when I came to
Yeshiva
and
got
my gemara, I felt like
doing my best to learn
from it in their memory
was a real chance to
take a sad story and do
something positive.”
Each day, forty-eight
9th grade boys learn
from matching gemaras
and with matching intentions. It is a beautifulzechus for the memory of those 3 boys and
an inspiration for the 9th graders to
give their learning their maximum
effort.
