5 . What would you say is the most effective way to raise awareness of your business and bring in new clients ? The most effective way is to do GOOD WORK . Focus on bringing opportunity to our students . And to continue to have the positive impact in the communities we serve . We have two sets of “ clients ” our school and young adult students and our partners and donors
6 . What challenges did you face in your business and how did you overcome them ? The challenges have changed over the years . In the beginning the challenge was to make others understand the idea we had . And to convince people to join as partners . The challenge then became to find great people to join the work And now it is to continue to fundraise for the mission as well as to make sure we are evolving with what the world needs and what young people should be learning and have access to .
7 . Do you have habits / things that you do that set you up for success ? I am optimistic and not afraid to consult with others . I think it is vital to be open to other peoples ideas I read a lot and listen to podcasts while driving
8 . How do you face a challenge ? I have learned to listen to the challenge – and not try to fix immediately . Have the conversations with the team ( the GWF team -many of whom have come through the programmes have amazing and varied ideas ) And then get stuck in and do the work .
9 . What was the most courageous thing you have done as an entrepreneur ? Start ! Focus our work in the rural parts of South Africa . Working in the cities is easier and donor / partners are closer . But I am passionate to unlock the potential of the young people in areas that often not included
10 . What was the best piece of advice you have ever been given ? Make sure you know your mission and stick to it . Don ’ t allow people to change the core mission . Partners along the way have had positive inputs and added to GWF ’ s mission , but we always remain true to why we started . To bring access to education and opportunity to young rural South Africans .
11 . What does your typical day look like ? There is no typical day . Anything from running workshops , taking classes , talking to the team , meeting with donors and partners , strategy , fundraising , hosting volunteers and even sometimes building and painting But every day at GWF starts with a morning circle on every campus . We meditate together , we inspire each other , we sing together and check in .
