Eva was running late , again .
She was sure it was only 8:40 a . m ., or maybe 8:45 a . m . The prospect of it being 8:50 a . m . was a worstcase scenario she ’ d rather not entertain .
This was Eva ’ s first summer job . The first job of any kind or season . And after a semester of constantly being late for each of her high school classes , she was hoping to turn back the clock on her tardiness .
Being late for yet another shift would surely lead to disciplinary action , first from her employer , and then from her dad .
Her dad hated it when she was late . Eva had done a lot of quasi-bad things in her day , although no worse than your average teenager . But it was being late that upset her dad the most .
And Eva was always late . Late getting to work , late getting home , and now , here she was late again .
Eva arrived to work at 9:20 a . m . She was fired . Time was up .
