two world wars , the Great Depression , and the loss of loved ones . But it was someone who married into the family who brought the Bixlers name into the future .
Kenneth H . Mitman had married a Bixler and entered the business with no prior knowledge of jewelry . Despite overwhelming odds , he successfully built Bixlers into a nationally recognized brand . And in 1965 , Bixlers even received a congratulatory telegram from Tiffany & Co ., stating , “ Heartiest congrats on your 180th anniversary . You are fifty-two years older than we are . We bow to you on your birthday .” Ten years later , Bixlers received another telegram from Tiffany & Co : “ Congratulations on your anniversary today . Not only the oldest but one of the finest jewelers in America . We salute you .”
Bixlers , America ’ s First Jeweler , was founded by Christian Bixler III in 1785 . On the corner of Bank and Northampton Street in Easton , Pennsylvania , is where he opened the first Bixlers store , which would set the standard for excellence in luxury jewelry for more than two centuries . Driven by legacy , passion , and enduring principles , Bixlers continues to create every piece with unmatched quality and unparalleled craftsmanship .
Under the apprenticeship of master clockmaker John Kiem who demanded perfection , Christian Bixler produced luxury timepieces with skill and mastery that would rival any American jeweled clock at the time . Each clock was hallmarked by Bixler ’ s distinctive signature , with artistic dial decorations featuring garlands of flowers , fruit , and cherubs . Thanks to Christian ’ s expert craftsmanship , many of these clocks remain in operation to this day ! Bixler ’ s original molds , shaping tools , and silver tableware have also been preserved in a provenance museum to celebrate the Bixlers origin story and honor Christian ’ s fine work . If you visit our store in Allentown , Pennsylvania , you can view a collection of history books that chronicle the Bixlers legacy .
In 1968 , Bixlers was passed on to Kenneth ’ s children , and together , the siblings successfully ran the store until 2006 . To this day , Kenneth ’ s daughter Joyce remains an essential part of the business and can still be found warmly assisting Bixler ’ s customers at the Allentown store .
