Bixlers™ , America ’ s First Jeweler , was founded by Christian Bixler III in 1785 . Christian set the standard for excellence in luxury jewelry more than two centuries ago when he opened the first Bixlers ™ Jewelers in Easton , Pennsylvania on the corner of Bank and Northampton Street . His legacy , passion and enduring principles continue to drive unmatched quality in every piece we create today .
Being a perfectionist of Swiss heritage and apprentice of master clockmaker , John Kiem , Christian produced luxury timepieces with an accuracy rivaling any American jeweled clocks of the day . His artistic dial decorations featured garlands of flowers , fruit , and cherubs , with each clock hallmarked by his distinctive signature . Many of these clocks are still in operation today thanks to his superb craftsmanship .
Christian ’ s original molds , shaping tools and silver tableware created alongside his sons have been preserved in a providence museum dedicated to his fine work .
To keep Christian ’ s legacy alive , there has always been a Bixler at the helm of Bixlers ™ Jewelers . Upon his death in 1840 , the store was inherited by Christian ’ s sons , William and Daniel Bixler , and then by Daniel ’ s son , Rush H . Bixler ; his youngest brother , C . Willis Bixler ; and family friend , Walter Hamman .
C . Willis ’ s son Arthur Brookfield Bixler took over the business in 1908 . Despite facing the challenges of the Great Depression and being left with only $ 11,000 in inventory at the time of his father ’ s passing , Arthur succeeded at vastly expanding sales . When Arther passed away in 1945 , his sister , Clara , took the perilous fate of the store into her hands and persuaded
