(l59) These criteria have been described as "admirable" and as combining "sound therapeutics with an attitude of commonsense economics" by other experts outside Bangladesh. (160) The different categories recommended for withdrawal include tonics and enzyme mixtures; liquid multivitamin preparations (with the exception of a few for paediatric use); cough medicines, throat lozenges and gripe water; and combinations of antibiotics, corticosteroids and other drugs. Most combination drugs are to be withdrawn when single-ingredient drugs offer acceptable (often cheaper and safer) alternatives.
