NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME The National Service Scheme has a wonderful legacy and carries forward the vision of our leaders who fought for independence from the British. The independent India is still grappling with the enormity of the developmental challenges faced mostly by the poor countries for decades. It was perceived that the students of India must, as part of their educational experience, give time for social and labour service. Thus, National Service Scheme was formed, and it acts as a powerful instrument for national integration. Above all, it teaches students to develop compassion and empathy for others. It benefits society and also develops a deep appreciation of Indian society and its traditions in the minds of the students Inspite of our progress, it should be admitted that the benefits of economic progress have not reached in equal measure to the thousands of villages where millions of Indians reside. This anomaly needs to be corrected; else it will be difficult to sustain our growth rate. Inclusive growth is a real imperative. Keeping this in mind, the NSS unit of our institute strives to make the dreams of the forerunners of our nation by addressing various problems. The Programme Officer has various recognitions for his commitment in the proceedings of the unit. The unit conducts various developmental programmes in and around Sathyamangalam catering to the needs of the local populace
