What is a STAR?

A star is a luminous, massive ball of super heated gases- basically, hydrogen and helium-held together by its own gravity. The heat of the star is made in its core. The energy of the stars comes from nuclear fusion processes. So, almost all the elements heavier than hydrogen and helium were created by nuclear fusion

Stars are enormous but appear to us tiny, because they are very distant from the Earth. The nearest star to Earth is our Sun. It is a fairly “average” star compared to other stars. However, it would take us about 75,000 years to reach the sun.
