NEWS ROUND-UP A R O U N D T H E EUROPE PA R T N E R S H I P ALL THE LATEST NEWS, INSIGHT AND SUCCESS STORIES FROM 115 PARTNERS IN 113 COUNTRIES On International Dawn Corus Day this May, BirdWatch Ireland co-produced the biggest and most ambitious live natural history radio broadcast ever made. This seven-hour celebration of birdsong followed the dawn chorus around the world, hosted by BirdLife Partners across Australia, Asia and Europe. The program was broadcast live from over 400 radio stations worldwide, reaching half a billion listeners. KEY BIRDLIFE PARTNER BIRDLIFE COUNTRY PROGRAMME AMERICAS Aves Argentinas and the National School of fishing have signed a joint agreement to collaborate in the coming years. The two organisations plan to exchange information and work together to embed bird-friendly practices into the fishing industry, in the process changing fishing culture and breaking down barriers between fishers and conservationists. The agreement was signed in Mar del Plata this May. AFRICA 6 A proposal to build a wind farm in a dangerous location for birds has been halted with the help of BirdLife South Africa. Inyanda Roodeplaat Wind Farm in the Eastern Cape would have been located near a protected area, in the direct flightpath of large numbers of raptors.
