Helmet Vanga:
A victim of climate change?
No wonder this bird looks furious: in 50 years’ time, its habitat may
not exist at all. Teetering on the northeast edge of Madagascar, the
Helmet Vanga is confined to a few remaining patches of untouched
lowland rainforest. Here, it moves in mixed-species groups with
other vangas, snatching its invertebrate prey from its surroundings.
Judging by its beak, you might be mistaken for thinking this bird is
a hornbill, but it’s actually a member of the shrike
