editor’s note Innovation & technology partnerships only way to affordable healthcare… Of what use is a highly effective health technology that despite all its virtues fails to reach those for whom it matters to the extent of life and death? The price barriers are keeping innovative medical products away from masses in developing nations, making them limited for only rich and famous. At the same time affordability is not always not on the minds of innovators and rightly so due to the goals that have been set by them or the organization they are working for. Therefore, it becomes the duty of government and the organizations run by it to innovate technologies and disseminate them for good through either technology transfer agreements or forging open access collaborative models. However, equally important is the role of huge private healthcare players in doing their bit for spreading the fruits of medical research to deserving downtrodden. As the first long introductory paragraph points out, this edition of BioVoice is mostly focused on healthcare policy in India. The detailed cover story analyses the importance of prioritizing the health research partnerships in India. The ‘Face to Face’ section features the interview of Dr Soumya Swaminathan, Director General, ICMR who shares her viewpoint on burning issues concerning medical research in India. The ‘Bio Social’ multimedia story on how Superheroes are fighting against diarrhea villains, is a must read.
