The partnership aims to promote knowledge exchange and
research collaborations between UK and India in the skills
space and to strengthen capacity of research organisations in
both the countries so as to be able to work in collaborative
research environments in the Sector.
This kind of collaboration is in alignment with the overall
mandate of the recently established National Skill Research
Division that will serve as a think tank on research related to
skill development and evolve as a credible research
organization in skills space at the national level.
SANOFI INDIA, NIPER PARTNER TO PROMOTE
ACADEMIC RESEARCH
Sanofi India has
entered into an
agreement with
NIPER Kolkata
to promote
academic
excellence and
research in the
areas of
pharmaceuticals
and consumer
healthcare
products, to
cater to the current and future needs of the pharmaceutical
industry. The memorandum of understanding in this
regard was signed in the presence of President of India, Mr
Pranab Mukherjee.
NIPER Kolkata, an autonomous body set up under the aegis
of Department of Pharmaceuticals, Government of India.
Through this initiative, Sanofi India will participate in
revision or formulation of curriculum for a Post-Graduate
(M.S.)/Ph.D programme. It will provide opportunities of
internship or project work to NIPER Kolkata M.S./Ph.D
students at manufacturing sites besides ensuring
association of R&D heads with the dissertation work of
NIPER students. The program will provide career growth
opportunities and undertake collaborative research activities
in identified areas.

As per the MoU, the key deliverables for Sanofi India will be
to assist NIPER Kolkata foster students with updated
knowledge, and who are ready for the pharmaceutical
industry. The collaboration will focus in the areas of NIPER
Kolkata’s expertise including repurposing of existing
pharmaceuticals and novel small molecules for anti-diabetics
and drug-resistant tuberculosis, API by Synthetic Biology /
Cell Factory, phyto-pharmaceuticals and rare diseases of
public health importance.
DBT'S KHORANA FELLOWSHIP OPEN FOR BUDDING
INDIAN RESEARCHERS
The
education
overall research mechanism in skill development space and
to encourage research collaborations with various national
and international organizations. Under this partnership, The
British Council and the National Skill Research Division
(NSRD), a research division under the National Skill
Development Agency (NSDA) will work closely with each
other to build research collaborations between the UK and
India over a period of three years in the skilling domain. The
topic for the joint research study in first year of collaboration
is “Future Skills” that will focus on, understanding labour
market trends and identifying future employment in India in
selected manufacturing and service sectors in view of
changing technology.
Department of Biotechnology (DBT), government of
India, Indo-US Science and Technology
Forum(IUSSTF) and WINStep Forward are
partnering to support the prestigious Khorana
Program for Scholars named in honor of Dr Har
Gobind Khorana, who won the Nobel Prize in 1968 for this
work at the interface of chemistry and biology while a
member of the University of Wisconsin-Madoson faculty.
The Khorana Program will provide opportunities to Indian
students to undertake research at leading US universities
over Summer 2017 for a period of 1012 weeks. While the call
is open now, the application deadline is November, 30, 2016.
Pre-final year B.Tech, M.Tech, M.Sc., M.B.B.S, and B. Pharm
students currently enrolled in recognized institutions of
higher education in India in the areas of biotechnology
(including agricultural, health, fundamental biological and
biomedical sciences) can apply. Students pursuing PhD are
not eligible for this programme.
The Khorana Program is envisaged to provide
encouragement to young scholars to undertake R&D; enable
students to carry out research at a premier University in the
United States; transform research into societal benefits and
build a seamless scientific community between India and the
United States.
