NCL TECHNOLOGY STARTUP, MODULE INNOVATIONS RAISES 60 LAKH IN FRESH FUNDING
Module Innovations, a healthcare startup based out of National Chemical Laboratory Innovation park, Pune has raised investment of Rs 50 lakh( US $ 75,000) from National Science & Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board( NSTEDB) and Rs 10 lakh( US $ 15,000) from CIIEI, Indian Institute of Management( IIM) Ahmedabad as product development support. Module is a tech driven startup engaged in making rapid, simple, and affordable Point of care devices for microbial detection, such as in Urinary Tract Infection.
" Urinary Tract infections are the second largest infections in the world. Globally 150 million people suffer from UTI, with 1 in 3 women getting affected. With this funding we will expand the team and validate USenseTM our UTI bacteria testing technology at hospitals in Pune and Rajasthan," said Mr Sachin Dubey, CEO, Module Innovations. " This funding would also be used to develop the platform technology for pipeline products, including CSenseTM, our urine based cervical cancer strip," added Sachin.
Interestingly Module has raised grants from BIRAC, through BIG scheme and has also been won Starthealth-3 organized by Unitus Seed Fund. USense will help diagnose UTI causing bacteria in 30 minutes as against 2 days in culture. " USense can be used without labs and trained manpower, making it apt for rural and urban settings alike, bringing healthcare parity," said Mr Usman Khan, COO, Module.
TECH SUMMIT 2016: INDIA-UK COOPERATION DRIVEN BY‘ HIGH IMPACT’ RESEARCH PARTNERSHIPS
The India-UK Tech Summit that was envisaged during the Prime Minister Narendra Modi ' s visit to the UK in November last year to reinforce the friendship between India and the UK. It also marks the high point commemorating 2016 as the‘ India-UK Year of Education,
Research and Innovation’.
Welcoming the Prime Minister of UK to the Tech Summit, PM Modi mentioned during his inaugural speech, " It is a privilege that Theresa May, the Prime Minister of United Kingdom has joined us at this event. Madam Prime Minister, I am aware that India has always been close to your heart and you have been a great friend of India. Recently you celebrated Diwali at your home with members of the Indian community!"
PM Modi in his speech pointed towards the fact that in current global environment, two countries face several economic challenges which directly affect trade and commerce. " But I am confident that together we can leverage our scientific strengths and technological prowess to create new opportunities," he said.
Talking in particular about the scientific research cooperation, Mr Modi informed, " The present India-UK cooperation in science and technology is driven by‘ high quality’ and‘ high impact’ research partnerships. I am glad to mention that in less than two years’ time under the‘ Newton-Bhabha’ program we have started wide ranging collaborations covering basic science to solution science aimed at addressing societal challenges."
" I feel that India and UK can partner in harnessing the vast traditional knowledge base in India coupled with modern scientific investigation to provide a holistic approach to preventive healthcare. This can help address some of the modern life style diseases that we face," said the Prime Minister.
CSIR TO SHOWCASE TECHNOLOGIES AT 14 DAY LONG ' PLATINUM JUBILEE TECHNO FEST '

Council for Scientific and Industrial Research( CSIR) is showcasing the technologies innovated by its various institutes during the‘ Platinum Jubilee Techno Fest’ at the India International Trade Fare( IITF) in New Delhi. The Union Minister for Science, Technology, Dr Harsh Vardhan inaugurated the event at the Trade Fair that began on November 14th. Dr Vardhan visited all stalls in the CSIR hall discussing developments made and the future course for action with the directors and other scientists of various CSIR labs. He also inaugurated the micro site of CSIR Platinum Jubilee Techno Fest.
The Minister also unveiled brochures on each of such thematic areas at the exhibition. Dr Harsh Vardhan in his brief talk mentioned,“ This Techno Fest is an opportunity for the young students, scientists and the common people to come under one roof and witness the knowledge base of achievements and researches by CSIR.”
Dr Girish Sahni, Director General CSIR in an interaction with the media said,“ This( Techno Fest) is a matter of pride and satisfaction. It is an honest attempt to make people aware about the contribution of CSIR scientists, that is, what they have offered for the life of the masses. All 38 labs of CSIR contributed to the Techno Fest, presenting CSIR efforts to solve various issues of the common Indian. We are looking forward to contribute more with every passing year.”
The CSIR will also showcase its technologies for societal interventions on from November 14th to 26th. This Techno Fest will run till 27th November. Each day has different themesbased activities.
