Like each year, the Biotech Consortium India Limited (BCIL) has invited
interest from students for its annual biotechnology industrial training
and placement (BITP) scheme. The programme supported by the
Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology,
Government of India provides an opportunity to the fresh students
across India to hon their skills through hands on training. The training
period is for six months during which a trainee is paid stipend of Rs
10,000/- per month and trainer company is paid a bench fee to cover
the expenses for providing training.
The advertisement for the programme is published in national
newspapers once in a year in the month of April-May and online
application forms for students and requisition forms for companies are
available on website www.bcil.nic.in for submission. The final
placement for training is done in October-November, 2016.

HOUSE 2016’
The Indian Institute of
Technology (IIT Delhi),
a leading research
institute in India opened
its gates for public to the
twelfth annual Open
House on April 23 in its
premises. Guests were
left mesmerized to get
an insight into the
revolutionary research work, student projects, and numerous advanced
facilities and laboratories.
IIT Delhi has always been known for its projects and research driven
curricula. The projects on display were the hallmark of the students’
program representing student’s finest work. People experienced live
displays of pioneering projects and research developed by students, staff
and faculty; technical workshops by experts and a walking tour of the
on-campus laboratories will be some of the highlights of this one of its
kind exhibition.

As per the information given by Dr Suman Govil, Senior
Adviser, Department of Biotechnology (DBT) in her blog, this
workshop was attended by 120 science teachers (60 life sciences
and 25, 15, 20 teachers from physics, chemistry and
mathematics background) from Star Colleges supported by the
DBT. The workshop was sponsored by Newton Bhabha Fund,
Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISER),
Pune. The participants had opportunity to interact with 5
resource persons from faculty of Centre of Science Education,
Sheffield Hallam University, UK namely Dr Gareth Price, Dr
Julie Jordan, John Walker, Dr Peter Sides, Dr Diana Bracewell,
the representatives from British Council.
