Dr Trivedi and her scientific team have developed a novel medicine , REUNION ®, a product that prevents bone breakdown , stimulates new bone formation , and reduces bone turnover markers . The team has used leaves of Dalbergia sissoo ( North Indian Rosewood or sheesham ), a deciduous tree , to develop the medicine . The leaves contain several methoxyisoflavones and a novel compound that improves the trabecular microarchitecture of the long bones and increases their biomechanical strength . The medicine also helps in new bone formation via the expression of osteogenic genes . In January 2022 , a licensing agreement was signed with a USA-based company so that the medicine can be introduced there as a pharmaceutical drug .
Another product by the name JOINT FRESH ® for osteoarthritis from Spinacea oleracea has cartilage proliferative ability . These contributions have led to 23 patents both national and international to her credit with more than 100 articles in peerreviewed journals .
Currently serving as Principal Scientist at Council for Scientific and Industrial Research ’ s Lucknow-based premier institute , Central Drug Research Institute , Dr Trivedi has been conferred with NASI-Reliance Industries Platinum Jubilee Award ( 2020 ) in Biological Sciences . She has been awarded the prestigious Tata Innovation Fellowship 2019-20 by the Department of Biotechnology , Ministry of Science and Technology in recognition of her outstanding research
Current Position : Principal Scientist , Endocrinology Division of CSIR-Central Drug Research Institute ( CDRI ), Lucknow
Impact : Potential products from natural resources and small molecules for the improvement of bone health contributions . She is also a fellow of the National Academy of Sciences ( India ).
Dr Trivedi ’ s research programme addresses the problem of metabolic bone disorders that includes osteoporosis and related disorders . The major focus is to study the relationship of declining sex steroid levels in aging women and men to bone loss . These studies are complemented by animal studies and basic bone biology tools examining bone cells at different stages of differentiation . A few leading projects spearheaded by Dr Trivedi are R & D of potential new drug targets for osteoporosis and role of miRNAs responsible for bone mass reversal at the time of weaning . Another area of her interest includes the relationship between fat and bone mass in a high fat diet ( HFD ) induced osteoporosis model . Her group ’ s studies represent the leading edge of osteoporosis research , especially in the area of female osteoporosis and basic bone cell biology .
