bio personality Chairman of Lupin, Dr DB Gupta passes away The founder and chairman of the Pharmaceutical giant, Lupin limited, Dr Desh Bandhu Gupta passed away last month in Mumbai. The 79 year-old businessman was known for his vision to fight life threatening diseases of highest national priority by delivering good quality medicines at an affordable price. It was with this objective that he moved to Mumbai and founded Lupin in 1968. In order to eradicate poverty by encouraging sustainable development at the grass root level in rural India, Dr Gupta set- up Lupin Human Welfare and Research Foundation (LHWRF) in 1988. His efforts have led to a positive impact on the lives of 2.8 million families in 3,463 villages across India. In their message, Ms Vinita Gupta, CEO and Mr Nilesh Gupta, MD – Lupin, said “We are deeply saddened with the demise of our father early this morning. What DBG put in motion 50 years ago in helping to create, innovate and lead in the pharmaceutical space is an unparalleled legacy.” AstraZeneca Pharma India appoints GS Bedi as new MD Drug firm AstraZeneca Pharma India recently in its statement to press revealed that Mr Gagan Singh Bedi will take over as the Managing Di rector of the company with effect from July 1. The company has accepted resignation of Sanjay Murdeshwar as MD and as a director. He is shifting to a global role within the AstraZeneca group, based in Gaithersburg, Maryland, US. The Board has co-opted Mr Singh as additional director on the board, who will take over as the Managing Director of the company. He had joined AstraZeneca Pharma India in February 2006.
